The only nonhuman Grand Admiral in the Empire, Thrawn's origins were unknown to anyone except Emperor Palpatine. Placed in charge of the barbaric Unknown Regions, Thrawn surfaced after the Rebel Alliance's auerthraw of the Empire. Thrawn set about attempting to take control of the galaxy, and very nearly succeeded. He was killed when his Noghri bodyguard, Rukh, learned that Thrawn had betrayed the Noghri people.
